The Breath of Yu'lon - My Legendary Cloak

A few months ago, I was one of those people who thought they would never complete their legendary cloak quest. Rewind to last year - I always played WoW on a laptop, and finally mine decided it wasn't going to allow me to run LFR anymore. It would freeze, blue screen, then force me to have to restart. By the time I got back into the game I was usually kicked from the group. I couldn't even play the game with any graphics turned up to good anymore. That's when I decided to stop going after my cloak. Throne of Thunder was out and I had stopped after this part. I was pretty sad about it.

One of my first meetings with Wrathion
Since I've gotten my new desktop, my gaming experience has been nothing but amazing. My graphics are cranked up to ultra, and I can run LFR without any hiccups. So I decided to start backing working towards getting my cloak.

I figured since collecting the Sigils of Wisdom and Sigils of Power took forever, the Secrets of the Empire would take just as long. Surprisingly it didn't, and I was finished with that part of the quest in about a month. I also had the Trillium Bars made already since I was making Living Steel. Before I knew it, I was on to the next part.

Feeding Wrathion a balanced breakfast. /burp
I don't know if I was lucky, but it took me 3 weeks to collect my Titan Runestones. I think that's pretty normal for most people. Yesterday I was able to finish that part, complete Yu'lon's challenge, defeat the Celestials, and then finally was awarded with my Legendary cloak!

Yu'lon's challenge was easier than I expected, and I completed it first try. I was frost spec and aside from my class buffs and cooldowns, I used a food buff, Crystal of Insanity, Celestial Offering, and the 3 Pi'jiu Brews to help me. I also had some Healthstones left over from running LFR. Having those in case I got into a sticky situation was nice. I think as a ranged DPS, I had it a lot easier than others.

So after 9 months, it is done! I couldn't be happier and to celebrate, I transmogged to the same set that I was wearing when I first talked to Wrathion to take up the task of collecting this cloak! If you'd like to see all of my screenshots from I took while collecting my cloak, you can do so by clicking HERE.

6.2, I Welcome You!

I honestly cannot believe it's been months since I've posted here. I'll be honest though, my WoW playtime has drastically decreased, but when I am playing, I am having fun. Since 6.2 came out this week, I figured it would be good if I caught everyone up on what I've been doing! First I want to thank Blizzard for introducing the game token. Because of this I haven't had to purchase WoW time with real money in two months. I'd complain that I'm spending all my gold, but I can usually make the cost of a token back in one week.

I've also been writing, just not here. I've been active with role playing on Twitter and Tumblr. This always makes for fun stories, and I'm always getting new ideas for characters. This isn't always a good thing, but oh well! You can see a list of most of my babies here. I also joined my friend's Tauren guild on Ravenholdt called Horns of Shu'halo. It's a new experience leveling up on a RP/PvP server, but all the times we've played, I've had lots of fun!

Now what was next... yes, Tanaan Jungle! I had planned to spend opening night with my niece, nephew, and our mutual friend. This is my little guild, and we usually try to do all new content together. Needless to say this resulted in a lot of laughs, funny bugs, and silly screenshots. We won't talk about how many times "Oh, look at that cave!"or "I'm pulling this!" was said, but it's moments like those that make great memories.

That being said, I do find it difficult to kill things there on my mage if I'm alone. I'm sure as time progresses and I get gear upgrades, it will be a bit easier. Also, I'm enjoying shipyards. I think my favorite part about them (aside from renaming my ships) is that I don't feel like I constantly need to log on to check up on them. This is how I wish garrisons were all along.

I honestly wish I had more to talk about, but the truth is, I don't. I won't say that I hated this expansion, but this has been the most disappointing one. I'm still having fun playing with friends, and as long as the 6.2 content keeps me entertained for a while, then I guess it's doing a good job. Until next time, see ya!

Ever since I started roleplaying with my Alliance warlock, he's slowly grown more and more on me. I probably spend more time working on his story than I do with Velgana! If you're not familiar with Melathor, here is a quick description. He's a cocky Gilnean worgen who has been working towards his goal of becoming a more powerful warlock. Of course there is more to his story, and if you'd like to follow that, you can do so over at his Tumblr.

Anyway, I love entering art contests to try to get things drawn. I had entered Tsepish's giveaway, and I wasn't the first winner, but when she decided to draw out a few more names to sketch, I was one of them. I was going to get Velgana sketched, but I absolutely love the way she draws men and I didn't have anything of Melathor done. I have absolutely no regrets because he's perfectly smug and she captured him extremely well!

She's been posting gorgeous Blizzcon badges that she's completed over on her Twitter, and she also has a website where you can find all of her information at! I posted links to all of the sites below so definitely give her a follow!

Transmog Time: Gilnean Noble

I had wanted to do this post for a while now, but I figured I should wait until the Darkmoon Faire was in town to do so. A long time, I was looking for the perfect set for my Gilnean warlock that I roleplay with. I was sad at the time because there was nothing in game that looked like that aside from the starting robes that the priest, mage, and warlocks have, and a shirt you can buy in Dalaran.

I guess you can expect how overjoyed I was when Blizzard finally added the set into game. I worked my butt off that week to buy all the pieces and put together what I think it the perfect Gilnean noble transmog.

Helm: Eye of Flame
WoWHead Set Link

Another choice for helm if you're using this set for a bank alt or just RP purposes would be the High Society Top Hat. I still prefer my monocle though! My weapon of choice is usually the Rosethorn Staff but as always there are many other options! The entire noble set can be purchased from Chester at the Darkmoon Faire for 205 tickets. There is also a lovely set for the ladies.

During WoD there were other colored versions of the nobleman and noblewoman sets that were data-mined. I can only hope that these are eventually added because my worgen definitely needs more of this stuff in his closet!

The Legion Hype

I know it's been a while since Blizzard released the news of Legion, and I still have not gotten off the hype train yet! I know a lot of people have there reservations on the new expansion, and can you really blame them after the flop of Warlords? But I'm not going to waste any more time talking about that. Instead, we're going to focus on what is hopefully coming up!

I had watched previous Blizzcons with the virtual ticket and chatted with people on Twitter and Battle.net, but this was a whole different experience. I was watching it with a few online friends, and it felt like everyone in the community was buzzing. I think people just wanted hope for the next thing to be better than what we have now. I won't lie, I was nervous and excited. Even after reading all the different expansion speculations, I wasn't sure what to expect. All I know is that after Gul'dan placed his hand on that fel prison, I lost it.

As the crystal pulses green: "That can't be Illidan, can it?"
Seeing the outline of the horns and hearing the music: "... OMG IT'S ILLIDAN!"

Then everyone lost it. I was on board with anything after that! I have to say that I am most excited to explore the new zones and check out the class halls. I also love the idea of artifact weapons. Finally, as if everything else didn't have my mind buzzing - demon hunters! Yes. I immediately saved two names that I'm contemplating using, and of course the RP lover in me is already working on a bit of a backstory for them. Of course I'm also excited to fully immerse my warlock into this expansion as well.

So far things are looking really good, and I cannot wait to see more about the expansion at Blizzcon. As always, I purchased a virtual ticket and a goody bag this year. I'm really thankful for Blizzard allowing home viewers the opportunity to get the bags since I probably will never be able to attend the con itself. I'm perfectly fine watching from my couch and chatting with everyone.

I won't lie, I am a bit nervous that this is going to be quite a hefty expansion with a lot of things to cover. I'm just hoping everything makes it and things aren't cut and left with lose ends. I'm going to try to remain optimistic about everything and hope that Blizzard will steer us into the right direction with this one.

This is Hallow's End

I'm back! I took almost a month's break from WoW to spend time focusing on a few other games that came out or became free to play. It was actually a very nice and peaceful break. Thank goodness I bought a game time token before I left, because they are a lot more than I'd like to pay for one. At the time of writing this post, they are over 34k! That's about 6k more than what I paid. Ouch.

Honestly, I'm only back for one reason - Hallow's End! It's my absolute favorite holiday in Warcraft. I am once again going up against the Headless Horseman for his mount. I'm sure I've talked about this several times before, and the fact that I still have to complain about it is ridiculous! This year I have only three characters that can run it since I cannot fond the willpower to level up the remainder of my alts through Draenor yet. I have a good feeling about this year though. I think the Horseman's Reins will be mine! (I think I say that every year... oops.)

Onto better news, I never got to talk about yet another dream mount I've recently added to my collection. I have been on the hunt for a Feldrake for quite some time now. I had an average price I was willing to pay, and I checked Undermine Journal a few times daily to see if one went up. Eventually one was put up, and I bought it up faster than I could take a breath. I have no regrets! I wanted one really bad for Legion because I couldn't possibly imagine my demon hunter riding around on anything else. (It also looks really good with my warlock)

That about wraps things up. Me and Terky also have a bit of work as I want to write a guide on how to get him for those who are curious. I know there are a ton of guides already out there, but who cares right? As long as information helps someone, that's all that matters. Keep an eye here for that post sometime next week. To all my fellow Azerothians, thanks for reading and see you next time!

Terky Time

It is commonly known that Blizzard usually reserves their murloc mini pets for special promotions and Blizzcon. Previously the White Murloc Egg, which produced Terky, was only available through an iCoke promotion in Taiwan. You may have even gotten the quest shared to you once or twice in battlegrounds. Of course there was no way to turn it in and sadly many patches later it was completely removed from everyone's quest logs. Thanks to some lovely world explorers (you can see their names on Terky's page of WoWhead), they cracked the case on where to find Terky.

First thing is first, get to Dalaran and fly to Borean Tundra. The closest place for Horde is Warsong Hold and for the Alliance it is Valiance Keep. Next you want to fly or swim (if you prefer to make things difficult) to the Riplash Ruins. You will want to be at about 55,88 before you take a dive.

The entrance isn't all that easy to find without a group of people hanging out around the area, but this is what you're looking for. Between all that seaweed is a little cave you can swim down. Sure it will feel like you're swimming into a dead end, but trust me, it isn't!

Once at the end of the cave, swim up. You will now be in a little cavern. Follow the cavern to the back where you will see an altar. Behind the altar is a pile of bones with the White Murloc Egg nestled safety inside. Loot it and add it to your collection as normal.

Ohhh, another pearl altar to add to the mystery!

Congratulations, you are now the proud owner of your own little Terky! What did you think of this hidden mini pet? I personally loved it, and I'd love to see Blizzard add more hidden things like this in the future. Who knows what's already in there that we haven't discovered yet! Only time will tell what adventurers may stumble onto.

Post Blizzcon Thoughts

It's been a few days since Blizzcon, and I believe I've caught up with almost everything that I was interested in. This may be a bit of a longer blog post, and not just about WoW since I'm excited for a few other things coming to other Blizzard titles.

I've been purchasing the virtual ticket every year that it was available to do so. It's just not feasible for me to go to Blizzcon, nor do I do well in that kind of packed environment. The virtual ticket is just an overall better experience for me all around. However, this was the first year that we were able to purchase the Blizzon goody bag as well. I received mine the morning of Blizzon, so it made the virtual ticket experience that much more special even though I was enjoying it from my couch.

To be honest, I was nervous. After all the excitement I felt last Blizzcon for Warlords followed by the disappointment of the expansion, I didn't know what to expect. I also was pretty bummed at the lack of Diablo III time scheduled out. That didn't give me much hope. The long awaited Warcraft movie trailer also danced through my mind. Was I even excited to see it anymore? I felt like marketing for it has just been one entire drawn out process gone completely wrong. To my surprise, Blizzard delivered everything I wanted to hear and more.

Heroes Of The Storm
As I was sipping my coffee the morning of Blizzcon, there were rumors of Genn Greymane being announced as a playable character. I don't visit many HotS sites so I have no idea if this was an actual leak or just speculation, so please forgive me. As many of you know, I love my worgen characters, and the thought of one in HotS made me giddy. When the trailer started for the opening announcement, and I saw the claw marks on the tree, I flipped!

While I don't play Heroes with a team, I still enjoy it. I usually play against AI with my boyfriend and sometimes (though very rarely) one other friend. I've been playing Rehgar and Nazeebo, but I will definitely be saving up my gold to purchase Greymane when he's released. I don't think it will be until January though. That's alright, I'm patient! I was also surprised by Cho'gall given as a free hero to virtual ticket holders. It was a very nice little gesture, and I think it's really cool how you can "gift" him to other players.

Diablo
Although I really wanted something HUGE to be announced for Diablo, *cough*necromancer*cough*, I'm excited to see all the changes and new zones coming in the next patch. I don't know about everyone else, but I really like how they've been releasing new zones with the updates. I hope they plan on doing more of these in the future.

I also love the announcement about season rebirth. While I do love trying out new characters, I hate making new ones each time I wanted to enjoy a season. This way I can revisit one of my old characters and enjoy the journey with them without worrying. I'm also really interested to try out set dungeons, though that might be a bit of a step up from the usual way I play the game, haha. You can learn more about all the new Diablo features announced at Blizzcon here.

Warcraft Movie
This movie has been teasing us for so long, that I wasn't even sure what to expect. I watched many of the leaked trailers that were posted online and saw many of the blurry screenshots shared from Comic-con and other events. I wasn't impressed, but I decided to hold out for the official trailer.

After watching it a few times, I'm still not sure what to think. The orcs look amazing, but I'm not sure about the humans. I'm also on the fence about Garona's look. She doesn't look like half orc/human. She looks like a woman dressed in cosplay and painted a terrible shade of green. While I realize her look is probably based off of Metzen's rendition of Garona, I still am unsure about it. I'm hoping it's just the trailers and the entire look is pulled together better on screen.

That being said, I'm sure I will look past all those nit-picking things and absolutely love the movie. I've already planned to see it two or three times. I'm hoping it does well in theaters because I'd love to have a second one made. Who doesn't want to see the Arthas story unfold on the big screen? Sign me up!

Legion
Of course, this is the main thing I wanted to hear about. When it was time for Legion to shine on stage, my head was already buzzing with information and anticipation. After the excitement I had last Blizzcon for Warlords of Draenor, I was so let down. I know I'm definitely not the only one in the community that felt this way, and after the Legion announcement at Gamescom, I wanted to know more.

As the cinematic played out before me, I was originally unimpressed. It wasn't until I watched over it again that night that I felt the full effect of what was happening. I think the most exciting part of the trailer for me was King Varian ripping apart his sword, Shalamayne, into their twin blades. I'm also really excited because it's been stated a few times that Greymane and the worgen will play a part in this expansion, and that makes me really happy. All of the zones look beautiful, and I can't wait to see all the hard work the development team put into the Broken Isles.

I've been really happy with all the expansion announcements and class changes. I don't think there was one thing that I really disliked yet, but as you can expect, I'm weary. If Blizzard can stick to their promises, I think this expansion may just be one of the best ones. I didn't pre-order just yet, and I'll probably wait until it's closer to release before I do that. I'm also still torn on making my demon hunter a blood elf or night elf. Decisions, decisions.

That's about all I wanted to cover. Of course they talked about Hearthstone and lots of Overwatch, but I'm not interested in those games. I didn't want to try to talk about them like I knew what I was saying. Anyway, I've rambled long enough, and I guess I should say something to end this now. Oh, how about this... FOR AZEROTH!

About A Moose

0

Just in case you've been away from Azeroth for a while, the trendy and cool thing is currently the Grove Warden mount. This thing has been causing a stir since it's unofficial announcement at Gamescom many months back. With the release of patch 6.2.3 this Tuesday, many people have already completed the task of getting this mount. I know that Legion is still many months away, but I know how people can be - they want everything as fast as possible! I know as more and more people get their mount, others who are slacking behind may become more in a panic that they are running out of time - I would fall into this category since I worry about everything! Thinking about all of this brings me back to Seige of Orgrimmar and the Reins of the Kor'kron War Wolf.

The Seige of Orgrimmar era was a big blur for me since it lasted so long, but I clearly remember some of my friend's scrambling to get the War Wolf at the end. I remember the day before patch 6.0 hit, I had a friend that was in a pug that wiped all day on Garrosh. I couldn't imagine sitting at my computer and playing WoW for that long, especially just for a mount! In the end, they didn't make it. I told them not to worry because there would be plenty of wolves to collect in Warlords, and boy was I right.

Image From Warcraft Mounts
For me, Warlords had some of the most generic mounts. Now that I'm looking at a list of all of the mounts, there were ten wolf mounts that were available to players. Out of all of these, seven of them are available to both factions. That's a lot of wolves! I imagine the same options will be available in Legion. They've even data-mined at least one moose model and a cute model of something that will probably be a little moose mini pet. I think these may be tied into Highmountain, perhaps via reputation or maybe even through a rare spawn drop.

While I know these other mounts don't look as fancy as their raid counterparts, there are still an option for people who missed out. Lately there have been countless of amazing people who have stepped forward to help people in acquiring the Grove Warden. It has been dubbed project Friendship Moose on Twitter, and has proven to be a great success as many people have already acquired their mount. If you'd like to see more information about getting into a group for this, you can check out the official site: http://friendshipmoose.com or use #FriendshipMoose to search on Twitter.

If that's not an option for you, I'm sure you can also use places like Open Raid, and keep an eye on on your server's trade channel and forums for guilds selling runs. There's plenty of time for everyone who wants a Grove Warden to get one, but I just wanted to make a post for those who are last minute and stress about things like this. Don't worry, this won't be the last moose you will see. Good luck to everyone!

Velgana by Sir Meo

I follow some pretty amazing artists on Tumblr, and while I'd love to commission all of them, money simply just doesn't allow it. Trust me, if I had a disposable income, I'd have so much artwork of Velgana and Melathor that I would be able to fill an art gallery! Anyway, when one of them says they are doing freebies or a giveaway, of course I enter. Very seldom I win, but when I do, I'm thrilled to the moon.

I followed Sir Meo for their love of drawing Forsaken cuties; I especially love seeing my favorite OC of theirs, Adessi! So when they were offering free black and white sketches of your Forsaken, I decided to throw a screenshot of Vel with a lot of her frostfire regalia taken off since it's quite detailed. The picture I got back was pure perfection, and I'm eternally grateful for them drawing my little Vel with the rest of the cute Forsaken.

If you're looking to follow them or have a commission or two done, please check out the links below. Of course they do more than just Forsaken art, but we all know that undeads are the best. ;)

Finding Farahlon

As I moved around some things in my garrison, I came across a map of Draenor. I could only assume that one of the peons moved it while cleaning and forgot to put it back where it belonged. As I walked back to the town hall with the map in hand, I noticed one corner was servery damaged. It looked like it was almost cut, but the person decided that was a bad idea and tried to erase the island on it. They didn't do a great job because I was still able to make out the name "Farahlon". Now where did I hear that name before? Oh yes, a garrison mission I previously sent followers out on.

Immediately I left the town hall and questioned a few of my followers. After a bit of interrogation, they confessed to me that they never found the island and the item they brought back was a staff that was picked up by the Laughing Skull clan. Hearing those words awoke the explorer inside of me once again. I had to do it; I had to go looking for Farahlon! I couldn't convince any of the ships I had recruited to take me out there, so I decided to go alone. It was just me, my raft, and the ocean.

I first stopped by the Laughing Skull village and listened as they told me tales of the magical island lined with large crystal formations and lush environments. There were even whispers of a treasure they called the pearl of Farahlon. A pearl!? Could this be yet another connection to the importance of pearls in Azeroth? I couldn't run out of the village fast enough, but they stopped to warn me of the seas surrounding the island. They were extremely rough and stormy; it would take a skilled ship fleet to survive. That still didn't deter me since I have survived death already.  As I paddled out further and further into the sea, I noticed my skyline change from a beautiful blue to a gloomy orange.

I kept going... and going, and going. I'm sure by now you're wondering what exactly did I find out there? Well, I found fish, magical flying fish to be exact! This group of fish would jump out of the water and fly around for a bit before plopping back into the ocean. I also found a large gron-like skull that had been in the ocean for quite some time to have so many mushrooms growing from it. Perhaps both of these items marked a hidden passage to get to Farahlon, but I sadly couldn't find it.

I pushed my raft around for a while longer before I folded up my map and took my hearth back to my garrison. I can't be the only one who had sent countless followers out there to check for something, yet they all turned up empty handed. I will definitely mark this one down in the books to "try again later". Someday I do believe we will find Farahlon, but sadly today was not that day.

If you would like to see the flying fish of Farahlon (as I like to call them), you can fly over to 90,40 in Gorgrond. If you look around under water in that area, you will also find the big skull I talked about in the post. Happy hunting!

Last year Ratsel came up with the idea of the Icecrown Challenge. She tagged me to join in. Even though things were a bit wild with me and Pigletoos moving and still settling into our new apartment, I still participated. I was really hoping that she would put on the event again this year, so you can imagine my excitement when I saw her post!

I won't go into too much detail here since I did so in my post from last year, but this hits very close to my heart. I lost a brother to suicide, and not a day goes by that I don't think about him, especially around the holidays.

A picture of my brother sits on my desk.
To be honest, I haven't been back to ICC since Invincible's Reins dropped for me, so it was pretty fun to go back and run it without having to hold my breath for a drop. It's always good visiting Arthas around this time of year. I brought candy and hot chocolate even though I don't think he was in the mood to celebrate.

Throwing a snowball at Arthas.
Regardless if the Icecrown Challenge existed or not, I think donating is a good tradition for me to continue on each year. I'm hoping each year my budget can allow for a little more since this charity does amazing things. If you would like to participate in the Icecrown Challenge or just want to donate to the cause, please check out the links below for more information. Happy Holidays!

Transmog Time: Use The Force

$

I've been riding the Star Wars hype train lately. I thought it was brilliant when Blizzard decided to dress up the Orgrimmar and Stormwind guards with "lightsabers" to commemorate the release of the Force Awakens. In all my years of playing WoW, I always thought those swords were really awesome looking. I never did receive one not did I actively go looking for one since it was never something I wanted to spend my gold on. As if it was meant to be, Saturday I received a Blade of Wizardry from my salvage yard. This got me to thinking about putting together a Jedi master and a Sith transmog.

The Dark Side

Helm:Thistlefur Cap
Shoulders: Laughing Skull Shoulderpads
Chest: Silver-Thread Armor
Cloak: Blackmetal Cape
Gloves: Silver-Thread Gloves
Belt: Sash of Whispered Secrets
Legs: Silver-Thread Pants
Boots: Veteran's Dreadweave Stalkers
WoWHead Set Link

Of course for this set, the weapon of choice is the Blade of Wizardry or Teebu's Blazing Longsword. Some off-hand items that may fit well are:
Spring Gadget(Horde only, sorry) - Looks like a remote you can use to "control" a droid.
Rod of Molten Fire - The perfect torture device for your Rebel scum prisoners.
Drakestone - Yes, let the hate flow inside this little red orb.

The Light Side

Helm: Resilient Cap
Shoulders: Resilient Mantle
Chest: Durable Robe
Cloak: Mammoth Fur Cloak
Gloves: Gloves of Purification
Belt:Bright Belt
Boots: Nat Pagle's Extreme Anglin' Boots
Shirt: Yellow Lumberjack Shirt
WoWHead Set Link

This weapon is a little easier to get since the Spellfire Longsword drops from The Slave Pens. Don't forget to get yourself a Lil' Bling to act as your protocol droid during your adventures through the galaxy! Here are a few other off-hand items you could use to complete your look:
Cosmos: You're going to need a planetary map to help navigate through deep space.
Tesseract Timepiece: A little more difficult to get, but I think it looks like some space age shield.
Surplus Limb: Everyone knows that most Jedi are prone to having limbs cut off, so why get rid of it when you can carry it around with you? (Ok, I know, bad joke!)

As always, these are for cloth wearers, and I try to use items that would be more easily available to all players. If you have any other Star Wars related transmog, please leave a comment below. I always love seeing what everyone puts together. Oh, and one last thing before I go... May the Force be with you!

Paladin... Once Again

$

Hello, yes, I'm the person leveling up a paladin once again. Well, at least I was leveling one up. I've been having this on and off again relationship with them for as long as I can remember. I tried out a human female way back in BC before I settled on a blood elf male. I named him Bubbleyum, and before I even got anywhere, I was bitten by the low level pvp bug during Wrath. At the time, I decided to go with the 30s bracket, thus locking my paladin at level 39 and "twinking" him out. I cannot remember the amount of times I ran Razorfen Downs for X'caliboar off of Ragglesnout (who was a rare spawn) or the countless amount of runs through all of Scarlet Monastery. I used the libram to enchant my headpiece and leveled up mining and skinning for the stat boost. I even cheated when the Jormungar Leg Armor was able to be applied to BoE legs and sent to a low level character. I never did get my Pendulum of Doom and I wasn't crazy enough to buy the really expensive Naxx shoulder enchants, but I was still pretty tough in battlegrounds.

So new expansions came, the zones changed, and heirlooms were introduced. I always thought about bringing Bubbleyum back into pvp, but I couldn't do it. So there he stayed in the city, full Scarlet set, stuck at level 39, and forced to be my bank alt. So why not level him? The answer is simple - once he hits level 40, he can no longer wear the Scarlet set. I mean, sure he can wear it and run around, but he can't transmog to it. This breaks my heart no matter how lore breaking it may be. (I see you lore people rolling your eyes!) So what did I do during WoD since I always wanted a paladin of my own? You guessed it, I started leveling up another.

Here is Fennel. We had such great plans. We had just made it to Northrend when Legion brought some rather interesting news. Of course the game is still in alpha so a lot of things are still up in the air. I was actually in the process of leveling while taking my alt+tab twitter break when I scrolled past this:
What?! Is it true?! My oh so loved Scarlet set may be getting changed to a plate set. Another thing was that classes that eventually are able to wear plate/mail will start out with that armor proficiency instead of learning them at 40. I was so thrilled that I logged out and left Fennel in the inn. If this change stays for Legion, which I'm hoping it does, I will be unlocking my original paladin and using my Legion boost on him. He's had to wait a long time, but hopefully that all changes. If things don't go as planned then I will boost Fennel and continue on as I originally planned. I know it's such a minor thing compared to all the other stuff that Legion has in store for us, but I think it's time for me to get back to playing the only paladin that ever truly mattered to me.

Love is Not in the Air

Hello again! It feels like life is swirling around me right now, and I'm trying to get back into my normal routine. My WoW subscription ran out this past weekend, but it fell in the middle of Valentine's Day and my birthday. By the way, both of those were absolutely lovely and served as a reminder that I have lovely friends I've made through the WoW community on Facebook, Twitter, and more recently, Tumblr. So with all of that, I didn't worry about renewing my subscription until last night. Like before, I'm still using tokens. I was keeping an eye on them and hoping that the steep 38k was going to drop a bit lower once Love is in the Air started. At about a -2k difference, I bought one for a little over 36k last night. Ouch.

... and they don't even light the candles!
To be honest, I'm not even sure why I bought one. I had plans to try again this year for the Big Love Rocket, but then I hit a sudden realization this morning while doing my garrison chores - I don't care. This is the year that I have the most max level characters to kill the bosses. This would give me a very good chance, but I somehow can't be bothered. As a collector, this is out of the ordinary for me, and I'm not sure if it's just the burnout of WoD or the fact that I'd never use the mount. I think since we still have months left to this expansion I'm stressing myself out with alts. I'll get it done though. Only three left to go!

So what did I do with my time instead of farming love charms and the mount? I brought my tauren druid to Dalaran! I do this with a few of my alts for different holidays since I have some of the stranger combinations. I parked Steaknfries right in front of the bank by the Sunreaver's Sanctuary and stayed for about two hours. I had various lovely people give me thanks after getting their achievement, some silly flirtations regarding my funny name, and I even made a dwarf buddy who danced and chatted with me. Having little moments like that makes me realize why I love this game and that there is still good out there in the community. I'll be doing this everyday while the event goes on. If you see me, give a /wave!

And as if I already didn't feel like time is flying by, Facebook decided to dish out a lovely reminder that it's the three year anniversary of me receiving my Mini Tyrael! Seriously, it feels like I just won that thing from Warcraft Pets. It's funny that I'm complaining about time passing by too fast, and I want it to slow down; on the other hand I want Legion to hurry up and be here. Where is a bronze dragon when you need them? Maybe I can just cast ice block and hope that I remain in a stasis for a few more months, then time can resume normally!

All I Got Was This Shirt!

I took a look at my banks; what a mess. I've pretty much given up any hope on organizing to see what gear and weapons I have until the Legion transmog system is released. Thank goodness I have a guild because I do store a lot of non soulbound items in there (Twilight Cultist set, starting items, Dalaran Wizard's Robe, etc.) My eyes immediately look over to my shirt collection. Not only does that take up the second largest percent of my inventory, but it also takes up a good bit of space in my guild bank. I know what I'll do, let me a list of what I have and then see what I'm missing! Something that I thought would take me about an hour or so ended up consuming most of my WoW playtime that day. You know what though, I didn't mind one bit!

I was shocked to see what I actually had. Some of my characters even had their original starter shirts - eww. I had no idea some of these had been removed from the game. Velgana was also only missing two patterns; Bright Yellow Shirt and Rich Purple Silk Shirt. I think it will be a while before I get the second pattern, but that didn't stop me from trying to farm it while I gathered up cloth to make other shirts. Let's just say that I'm well stocked up, and can make shirts for many. My guildies will probably get a t-shirt care package when Legion drops whether they like it or not!

So with my list looking a lot shorter, I decided to call it quits. Most of the remaining shirt on my list are purchased from vendors. All things easily picked up once the patch drops. I'm looking forward to Legion and all the new bag space it will bring. My guild bank will thank me as well. This will also probably help me feel less paranoid about losing certain items that are no longer available in game as well. If you're bored and have nothing to do, but still want to be in Azeroth, I definitely suggest having a look through your banks and attempt to get organized. You never know what treasures you're going to find in there. *cough*

Happy Blogiversary: 8 Years

Where it all began.

Where do I even start? Today marks the eighth year that I've been writing about Warcraft, and the ninth year that I've been playing the game. If you asked me back then if I'd still be here now, I probably would have laughed at you. I never imagined after nine years that I'd still be playing this game either. Of course, things have changed and I don't write here as often and my play style has also become more casual than anything, including taking breaks like the one I'm currently on. Yet I am always drawn back into Azeroth. I almost can view it as my second home.

Through this journey I've met so many great people. Some have come and some have gone, but I never forget those who have been a part of my life. Since becoming active in the Twitter community I've met great artists, writers, role players, and just general fabulous players that go out of their way to help others. I'm honestly in awe of how socially awkward someone like me can be and still meet people online and build lasting friendships.

So what's in store for this place? Well, I'm not going anywhere! I have a few posts planned out for the next coming weeks, and when Legion hits, things will definitely be back in full swing; granted I'm not stuck in my class hall most of the time. I have a post on the controversial vanilla servers I will post next week, and that's one you may want to read. I'm also in the process of moving over my mass amounts of WoW screenshots to a better platform where I can share them all with you. This will definitely be announced when that's done.

So, here's to 8 years and hopefully many, many more. Let's dance!

A nod to my first post on the blog.

My Favorite Flavor is Vanilla

So unless you've been living under a rock, I'm sure you've heard the many arguments surrounding Blizzard wanting the plug pulled on one of the biggest private vanilla servers, Nostalruis. This outraged many people while many others defended Blizzard's right to have the server force a shut down. This is something that has been addressed again and again. Players claim they want it while devs sit there and say "You think you do, but you don't.". Do they really want it? Maybe... This petition to get Blizzard to at least recognize the demand for it has reached over 200k signatures and even has the backing of a former developer who claimed that if it hit the 200k goal, he would personally deliver the petition into the hands of Mike Morhaime.

I sit here and I can't help but wonder many things about these servers. One of  the first thing that comes to mind is the fact that they are free. Who wouldn't want to play WoW for free? My concern would be if Blizzard did decide to implement these Legacy servers, there would still be a subscription cost; Let's say $10 USD. People tend to forget that Blizzard is still a company and though the servers would be running the "vanilla" version of the game, they still need to pay people to maintain that. Would people still want to play on legacy server if it had a subscription cost? My final answer, yes, some still would, but many probably wouldn't.

I look at the game in the form it is in today. It looks beautiful, the game plays smoothly, I don't have to worry about being dismounted when I walk through a puddle or have to bother with buffing ever 30 minutes... oops, sorry. I'll be the first one to admit, I'll put on my rose colored goggles and remember the past like it was the best thing ever. I still love flying through the old zones, and going to secret places. This is the part of the game that drove me to create this blog. Perhaps that's the second thing that brings people to vanilla servers? Azeroth in it's purest form. Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor. No flying, no Cataclysmic destruction, and the original tedious questing. I could definitely see the appeal of a legacy server to those people who never got to experience it, but would those people continue to play it after they saw how different it was from the game we have now? Some probably would, but the majority would probably just log off and never look back.

Nostalruis right before the server went down for good. (image from here)
"Warcraft is dying!" zone chat says as you look around and see one or two people questing, all from different servers. Who are these people? I log onto my server now and I immediately cannot pick out many of the old Skywall people. Every once in a while I will see a familiar face pop up, but the majority of people I see now are from the Drak'thul server. If it weren't for these server merges and CRZ zones, our Azeroth wouldn't feel very lively. Vanilla Warcraft did have a strong sense of community, and I totally understand that appeal. Someone was a ninja? You and everyone else knew. You needed a gem cut? I know just the person who is a pleasure to work with. That guild killed that boss tonight? Congrats, everyone would cheer (at least on Horse side of my server). Community with any hobby is strong. Everyone wants to be a part of the bigger picture, and I think the vanilla server community has that appeal. Would that bring people to play on legacy servers? Maybe, but I think you will get a better experience of making a Twitter account and engaging people that way.

I know I said a whole lot without really saying a whole lot, but the topic has been racing through my mind for the last week or two, and I just got around to writing it all down. I also disabled comments because this was mainly for me to get out my thoughts on the matter. Where do I sit on all of this? Well, I love the game how it currently is, but if Blizzard offered legacy servers, I'd definitely roll a character on there too. I would love to experience the old world and questing once again just for nostalgia sake. Knowing what I know now, I definitely think I would have much less deaths.

With all of that said, it seems this is something Blizzard are already talking about internally with this post on the official forums. While vanilla servers may be out of our reach, it's likely that we may see these pristine realms in the near future. This may help players who want that difficulty curve without all the problems of Blizzard running a vanilla server. Personally, I just don't think that's what people want, but the fact that Blizzard are also in contact with those who ran Nostalruis may be a good sign. Who knows what will happen. It will be interesting to see where this is going to go in the next few months.

By the way, I wasn't lying when I said that vanilla is actually my favorite flavor, but other others are just as good.

Warcraft Reading

I truly couldn't have picked a better time to take a Warcraft break. With all the lovely books that have been coming out lately, there was no better time. Anyone who knows me completely understands the issues I have with reading. I tend to buy books, read a bit, and never finish them because I'm usually so busy with real life and gaming things. Not to mention it takes me a while to read through one fully due to the fact that I'm a slow reader. It's hard to find time to fit everything in! So after taking a step back to distance myself from roleplaying and the Warcraft Twitter community to focus on myself and other person things, I found myself really enjoying my quiet time in a book along with a cup of tea or coffee.

With the Warcraft movie and the new Legion expansion on the horizon, this opened up an entire variety of books. Not only was a novelization of the movie released, but there will also be a graphic novel called Bonds of Brotherhood released as well. Along with this, the novel Durotan is available and follows the events prior to the movie. I decided against reading any of these before seeing the movie as I want to go in with a fresh outlook. I've previously read Rise of the Horde, and while I understand that the movie will be different than the in game lore, I still want to be surprised at the events playing out on screen. Maybe after I see the movie I will consider purchasing and reading some of those, but at this point it's highly unlikely.

I did jump at the opportunity to order World of Warcraft Chronicles, and let me just say that if you were on the fence about doing the same - DO IT! It's a beautiful book, and volume one focuses on Titan lore and the beginnings of Azeroth. I'm not sure how many of these they will release, but I'm hoping to collect all of them. If you were looking into diving deeper into Warcraft lore, this is a great place to start. I also ordered the Illidan novel, and I went in feeling strangely about it as it wasn't written by the wonderful Christie Golden. However, I did enjoy the book though I felt like some parts of it seemed to drag on a little too long. It left me wanting to hurry up to get over the parts with Maiev just to see what Illidan and the other demon hunters were up to. I also wish the publishing company took a little more care in the editing of the book as I found many errors that kept throwing me out of the story. Putting all of that aside, it's a wonderful introduction into the Legion expansion.

I also picked up a hardcover copy of Curse of the Worgen which I have still yet to read, but I will be getting to that one soon. Other books I may be considering in the future is the official cookbook that will be released in October. We haven't heard much about this yet, but I'm sure there will be more about that in the upcoming months. Hey, if you always wanted to throw a WoW themed party with buzzard bites for an appetizer, this may be the book for you! Finally the last book to catch my eye was the Traveler book series aimed towards children. I instantly fell in love with the artwork, and while I don't have or plan on having children to share this with, I know it will look great in any collection.

I know many people always complained about having to read many of the novels to get the story on what happened between expansions, but I would really recommend it even if you can fit in just an hour or so each night. Before you know it, you may be hooked just like I am and struggling to put the book down to get some sleep.

The Icecrown Challenge 2014

Last week the lovely Ratsel tagged me in a post to participate in her Icecrown Challenge. While this is a tough time of year for a lot of people, including me and Pig, I still decided to donate what I could because it's for a cause that hits close to home.

In 1998 I lost my brother Matt to suicide. This is something that still effects my family, and it's something that you never truly "get over". It always hits me really hard when I read about someone in the community (online and in real life) or a celebrity takes their own life. I immediately get transported back to the day it happened. It sucks that I had to grow up without him, and now that I'm older, we have so much in common. He loved metal music, video games, and craft beer. These are three things I absolutely adore. He was also a fantasy nerd and loved playing Dungeons and Dragons. I just know he would have loved World of Warcraft, and I just wish I would have been able to introduce him to Azeroth. As I type this with tears in my eyes, I have to remember that even though he's not here in person, he's been here in spirit and got to experience everything from afar. I can't wait for the day where I see him again, and give him a big hug. Love you my brother.

I was going to run ICC with my niece Selindri, but since she's been enjoying her holiday break, I really didn't want to bother her about it. My love Pigletoos decided he would do it with me. This is our picture after we defeated Arthas. I think we look pretty cute in our Winter Veil outfits!

I'd like to thank Ratsel for hosting this charity event for such a wonderful foundation. It not only means a lot to me, but I know it means a lot to a ton of other people out there also. I'm supposed to tag three people to do this, but I don't want to make anyone feel like they need to. So, if you're reading this and would like to participate, please do so. Even if you can't run ICC, you can still donate! Every little bit counts. To learn more, you can visit the links below.
